[The jostle stirs a hiccup out of him from all of the air he has swallowed while sobbing before. LISTEN. He turns his face into her neck, scrubbing it, then sighs.]

I saw his memories. Humans had betrayed him, and... I tried to tell him not all of them were like that. That he shouldn't give up on them. He knew... I knew he... That'd I'd know the hair would be fake already.

Let me tell you what I think of that horseshit. It's not a betrayal to catch a murderer, even if they didn't do it on purpose.

[she glances over her shoulder at him.] Besides, we're not letting them stay down there, right? So this is a blip.

[tearduct]

[Gideon, the voice of reason in his trying time of being morose. He peeks back at her when she looks.]

You think there's a way to get them back...?

[whether she actually does or not doesn't matter. what does matter is making him believe it.]

We've got two weeks. We'll figure it out.

[STOP.]

Maybe we can convince Satan it won't be a party without more than twenty people...

[This is like "heh heh" but the laughter doesn't reach his voice.]

[she snorts.]

That's a solid argument. Anything under twenty people and it's funeral.

Don't say that, it's probably what he wants.

[He should really trust Satan more with little other choice, but alas. Satan trauma.]

We'll figure it out... I'll see when I text him.

[she carries him off to the dorms!]

Don't make any stupid decisions. [she tells him, jostling him again.] I fucking mean it, Akira. If I find out you try to make some deal with Satan and it involves any sort of self-sacrifice I'm going to find you Thursday night.

[this is such a bad thing to joke about and yet]

[Haha...]

I don't know what he'll say. He might tell me nothing works except what we get. [This is not a promise, though, so:] I won't make any stupid deals.

[He is grateful for the carry. He will get down to help get into the room too once they are there.]

[well, she appreciates that. she's just going to have to trust him. nyeh.

she lets him down, though, and reaches to do something that she very obviously learned from one of the dad figures around here, which is to wipe his leftover tears away from one eye with her thumb and then honk his nose briefly.]

I've got to tell Harrow I'm staying with you, but I'm following through on that.

THIS DAD BEHAVIOR. He looks a bit surprised, then flustered in the way of a teenager being dadded. He pushes at her arm for the nose honk.]

I should probably shower off, so you can do that while I am if you want. [Thoughtful pause.] If you need to stay with her, I don’t mind. I get it.

[Because of her and Ryo’s whole thing.]

I’d be okay.

[cavaliered]

[she has like four dads and her mom died week one this is what happens

she grins a little at him at the first part, and then, for the second:]

Go shower. I'll be back. [she just won't acknowledge that. he gets it, but she said she'd stay, and so she's staying.]

[tearduct]

[Even though he just said that, there is some relief in his eyes and his shoulders when she says this.

His smile is weak and doesn’t exactly reach his eyes, but it’s there.]
